I'm back!
Public
I got the adapter yesterday and so nice to be back on my own computer again. I've almost finished knitting a long scarf and read a few books, plus watched far more TV than usual. Oh for computer withdrawal .
Today the weather went crazy, first with a small ice storm, and now finally the snow we've been missing for a month. It seems to be staying so I'm staying in. Also have the monthly curse yet again. Anyway, hope we won't have another power outage since I'm almost out of candles. Now I'm going to catch up on all the wonderful Yuletide fics I still haven't read. Love the amount of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang fic this year!! That film was so cute.

I've started knitting again and finished a bunch of half-read books. Not having a computer at home is very good for morale. Went out for a walk in the afternoon sunshine and could really appreciate that the day has become longer. It was still daylight at 16. Lots of kids playing around with New Year's fireworks, accidents waiting to happen. I'm crossing my fingers that the adapter will arrive tomorrow but I'm pretty sure that it won't come until Wednesday. Bloody holidays.

I burned out my power adaptor for the laptop yesterday and now there's only 30 minute left of battery time. I ordered a new adaptor from Dell today but it's 2-4 working days estimated delivery time.. HOW WILL I SURVIVE??? No computer until maybe Monday if I'm really, really luck, Wednesday or Thursday next week if I'm not. Oh dear. I'll have to visit my sister and update lj, but no news or fic or anything else until then.. I will miss you!!!!!
Arrived in Lund a couple of hours ago, cold and rainy but nice to have your own flat back.

Went out with sis today and visited the sales. Crazy crowds as usual and we didn't last long. I really need to find a warm, knee-length jacket but ended up buying a skirt for New Year instead. We're heading south tomorrow and I've loads to do. Christmas has been quite nice. No major fights. No snow but that's normal nowadays.

A continuation of our Christmas celebrations today. Have eaten a LOT of different pickled herrings. Best so far was the beetroot herring salad. Also had time to visit J and wish her a happy holiday. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

We've just had some glögg and mum is preparing the Christmas porridge while dad cooks the lutfisk. Took a long walk with mum through a rather empty city. I wrapped the toffee we made last night and we're pretty much ready for the Christmas calm to descend over us.
Since I'm apparently on a Carl Larsson spree here is a VERY traditional Christmas postcard: Brita as Idun which kind of sums up old-fashioned Swedish ideals for me. Nice but approaching sugary.
God Jul!!

Christmas preparations, part 3?
Public
I've been on Dad-watch while mum and sister went shopping today. Mum is on her way back and I hope I can go down and meet my sis then. Still have a few things to fix, and tonight we're listening to the traditional night-before-Christmas Eve radio show while we make toffee and wrap the last gifts. It won't be a Carl Larsson Christmas this year, but nice and quiet.

Long day of Christmas shopping. Mum and I managed to find some good ones for my sister. The stores are crowded and people are crazy but we got a lot of chores done. Hopefully time for some more sociable stuff tomorrow. It is really cold here now, but no snow. Instead it's the wet and raw sea air that always creeps up on you in Gothenburg. I need some warmer clothes.

Train ride was fine but I'm pretty tired now. Not used to waking up at 05:30 in the morning. I hope I manage to keep up the early hours..
Anyway, have started some Christmas shopping with mum and sisters. Bought a lot of different pickled herrings from the fishmonger's, a fundamental part of the traditional Swedish Christmas buffet. We also got a ham, hopefully without any strange additives since it was ecologically produced. These days one never knows. Still no Christmas presents though..
And in some ways I think this is my favourite day of the year, longest night and shortest day, now it turns and the light starts to come back. Hooray!

Did a lot of errands today and went to my last doctor's appointment before Christmas. When I finally came home around six I had to collect my laundry and then I just fell asleep and woke up three hours later. So I will most probably remain awake until 3 tonight since I feel well rested etc. Off to watch some more CSI.

Channel 5 has been showing season 3 of CSI late at night during the last couple of weeks and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed those episodes. Lots of labrats and just plain good and weird CSI style.

Managed to get out of bed by 9.50 this morning and even wash my hair before heading in to my doctors' appointment. Just the regular check-up so nothing earth shattering. At least I got a nice walk back home. Met A for a coffee later and finally returned her bag, due to my illness I kept it much longer than I thought I would. Really need to find a good bag for travelling in the sales after Christmas. Anyway, not much else going on. Sorting out stuff before leaving on Friday and feeling a bit sore after yesterday's work-out. Four weeks without training don't work. I hate that the regular schedule won't be back until the 6th of January.

On Tea
Public
I'm hardly drinking any coffee these days. On the other hand my black tea consumption has trebled. Pretty shitty Lipton Yellow Label Tea has become my saviour for caffeine related needs. But yesterday I made a good old pot of real loose tea from the tin of Fortnum & Mason's Darjeeling Broken Orange Pekoe I bought at the airport heading home from England last month, and very nice it was. I think I do prefer the larger leaves though, even if Darjeeling on the whole makes for very nice and light tea. Twinings is much easier to get hold of here, and it's just as good.

Practically nothing happened today. Took a long walk in the late afternoon sun with sister. It's strangely warm for this time of the year. I miss the snow. We'll probably get the usual white week in February or March when you just want the spring to come. It's now when the days are so short you need the extra light from the snow. Anyway, we made rice porridge for dinner and felt pretty Christmas-y after all. Finally heading back to the gym tomorrow after almost a month of not being able to attend (due to not being in Lund). We also bought the tickets to Gothenburg. Train early on Friday morning, and then staying until probably the 27th for me. Sis wants to go back on the 25th (Swedes celebrate Christmas on the 24th), but I want to do the usual "homecoming" meet up on Boxing Day. We'll see. Kind of wanted to spend New Year up there as well, but might do that anyway, going home to Lund and the back again by bus on the 31st. We'll see. I have some serious writing to do here so I do need to consider my priorities.

where we watched Marple: 4.50 from Paddington, which had great wardrobe, and had pizza. Very lazy Friday night. I really need to send my Christmas cards and sort out my life, but at least I cleaned my kitchen today. And ate a LOT of clementines.

Ok, I get why Suzanne Brockmann sells a lot of books. She's a fun and quick read and I can see myself get quite addicted to her novels. Perfect fluff for rainy or cold days. And it doesn't hurt that she's queer friendly in a pretty realistic way. It's a romance so yes a bit OTT with the true love perhaps but that come with the genre after all.

I've finally picked up my book package from Oxford, and two other orders which had arrived while I was gone. A nice pile of mixed titles:
From London&Oxford:
London - City of Disappearances ed. by Iain Sinclair (continuing my Sinclair spree since Paris)
52 Ways of Looking at a Poem by Ruth Padel (got this from the family I stayed with in Hendon)
Enduring Love by Ian McEwan (bought it since my sister couldn't stop talking about it)
Shadows of the Pomegranate Tree by Taiq Ali (bought and signed at the AP lecture in London)
London AZ (well, I had to find the place I was supposed to stay at, hadn't I?)
Party Going by Henry Green (after hearing D J Taylor on Bright You Persons in Bath I thought I should give Green another try)
The Quest for Corvo by A.J.A Symons (random search on wiki made me curious and when they had it at Skoob Books I picked it up)
After the War by D.J. Taylor (had to buy a fellow AP Society member's book, and had already liked what I'd read at the library, another Skoob find)
Love and Death in the American Novel by Leslie A Fiedler (how long haven't I been meaning to pick this one up. classic lit.crit study which pops up as reference everywhere, about time I have it on my shelves)
Men Without Women - masculinity & revolution in Russian fiction 1917-1929 by Eliot Borenstein (looks promising and I couldn't resist after my Russian lit. course last year and the masculinity connection and what with the Mayakovsky revival in Sweden. Another great Skoob Books find, I love that store!!)
from abebooks:
Blue Heaven, Putting on the Ritz & My Lucky Star, all three by Joe Keenan (very camp but fun, perhaps a touch to much mannerism to really work)
Hot Target and Breaking Point, both by Suzanne Brockmann (I've meant to read Brockman for ages and then found these recced somewhere)
Looks like I have some reading to do in the next month.

And how much do I love my little flat? I'm on my own again and it's so NICE to be able to shut the door and know that it's only me inside. No one will ask for help with moving from the bed to the chair and back again in the middle of the night or need medicine just when I sat down in the sofa. And no mum who takes care of me =) It's a double edged sword, isn't it?
Surprisingly few of my plant had died after almost a month without water. It had helped that I cut of the heat before I left. Now my sink is full with very dry but probably save-able green aspidistras and what-not-s. I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed and tomorrow I'm picking up my book-packages from England. Yay!
Less yay for going to the dental hygienist tomorrow morning, but probably good for my teeth. Will be a week of doctors' appointments and catching up on stuff before Christmas. I've already been over to see my sister and drink some port with her.
